How to Choose a Solar Installer in Las Vegas (Without Getting Burned)

By Chris Collela·

Las Vegas has dozens of solar companies. Some are excellent. Some will be gone in two years. Here's how to tell the difference.

Red Flags to Watch For

1. High-Pressure Sales Tactics

If a salesperson tells you the price is "only good today" or pressures you to sign before you've had time to compare, walk away. A good solar deal will still be a good deal tomorrow.

2. No Local Office

Some companies that sell in Las Vegas are actually national outfits that subcontract local installation crews. When something goes wrong in year 3, there's nobody local to call.

3. Unusually Low Prices

A quote of $2.00/watt or less in Las Vegas usually means budget equipment, corner-cutting on installation, or hidden fees. Quality installations from reputable companies run $2.60–$3.00/watt in 2026.

4. Pushy Financing

If the company steers you hard toward their in-house financing and won't give you a straight cash price, they're likely making money on dealer fees baked into the loan.

Green Flags to Look For

1. NV State Contractor's License

Every solar installer in Nevada must hold a valid C-2 electrical contractor's license. Verify it at the Nevada State Contractors Board website.

2. Local Track Record

Look for companies that have been installing in Las Vegas for at least 3–5 years. Check Google reviews, BBB ratings, and ask for local references.

3. Transparent Pricing

A reputable installer will give you a clear cash price, show you equipment specs, and explain exactly what's included — permitting, interconnection, monitoring, and warranties.

4. Workmanship Warranty

Beyond the manufacturer's panel and inverter warranties, your installer should offer a workmanship warranty (10–25 years) covering the installation itself — roof penetrations, wiring, racking.

5. Post-Install Support

Ask what happens after the system is turned on. Who monitors production? Who do you call if something goes wrong? How quickly do they respond?

Questions to Ask Every Installer

1. What is the all-in cash price before incentives?

2. What panels and inverters do you use, and why?

3. How long have you been installing in Las Vegas?

4. What does your workmanship warranty cover?

5. Can I see 3 local references?

6. Who handles the NV Energy interconnection paperwork?

7. What monitoring system is included?

8. What's your average response time for service calls?

Why I Work Differently

As an independent solar consultant, I'm not tied to one installation company. I help you design the right system, get competitive bids from vetted installers, and oversee the project from start to finish. My job is to be in your corner — not to sell you a specific product.

Want an independent opinion on a solar quote you've received? Send it my way — I'll review it for free and tell you if it's a fair deal.
